Complaint from Competitor 29, Flight 1
Response to Complaint from Competitor # 29
The rules are intended to be taken as a whole to avoid repetition / duplication. To score to the nearest electronic mark, or landing position under 6.4.3, then requires reference to rules that pertain to this procedure.
These are the definitions of Contest landing and rules 12.11.2 and 12.11.3, which more fully describe the procedures.
12.11.2 Clearly states that marks must meet all scoring criteria defined in the TDS. This includes, for example, scoring areas, altitude requirements, target closing times and scoring periods.
12.11.3 gives permission to use the next mark in time or landing position, but 12.11.2 still applies.
Further, under 11.3 Contest Landing, the rule clearly states that “published scoring periods apply”.
Since no valid physical or electronic marks were recorded, and the landing was after the end of the scoring period, there is no position that is eligible for achieving a mark.
Therefore each task was given a “no result”
The competitor’s complaint is denied.
Respectfully.

______________________________________________________
Given that the results are now official, I feel I must file a formal complaint.
Per the rules, specifically, 6.4.3 -Logger Failure;
“6.4.3 An electronic mark recorded by a competitor’s GPS-equipment can only be used if the equipment has been
approved by the Director before the flight or specific rules under Section II have been followed. Otherwise,
the competitor will be scored to his nearest electronic mark of the official logger, nearest physical mark or
landing position, whichever is best. A score to a track point will not be made.”
This rule states that the competitor will be scored to his nearest electronic or physical mark, or landing position, whichever is best. In the case of a logger failure, it does NOT specify that the landing has to be made within the scoring period, as is the case in a competition landing.
I therefore am requesting that tasks 1-5 be scored to my landing position per rule 6.4.3. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Bruce Wood
